California Pinot Noir Month: August, 2010

We are beating back the heat this August with California Pinot Noir Month! Each week we will feature a trio of the best wines California has to offer. The trio will be offered as a flight of all three with 2.5oz pours of each, or by the glass or bottle of any of our feature California Pinot Noirs.

Week 1Russian River Valley - Three single vineyard Pinot Noirs from Dutton Goldfield. Dutton Goldfield produces straight forward pinot noir that benefits from the cool air in the Russian River Valley. These three single vineyard pinots are some of the best 2007 California Pinots I have tasted.

Week 2Santa Lucia Highlands  - The Pisoni Family wine making business has spanned for over 60 years and the experience shows in their Pinot Noir. With two labels and one solid team of farmers and winemakers we invite you to enjoy the subtle nuances of there best three Pinot Noirs. Santa Lucia Highlands.

Week 3Santa Rita Hills – Sanford, Demetria, and Ampelos – All of these wines are produced in a micro climate that has cool ocean breezes that are ideal for pinot noir. The style is much like Burgundy pinot noir. Different wine making styles offer a chance to see what influence the winemakers have on the finished product.

Week 4Santa Cruz Mountains and Santa Maria Valley – David Bruce, Cumbre, Belle  Glos – Three very different styles and terroirs – you will be amazed at the difference the vineyard sites make on these wines.
